“Our baby is going off to university – the whole family is growing up and we want to preserve the day in photos – will you spend the day with us…and bring your camera?” One of the very first professional photography jobs I was hired for was a graduation. I spent the day with a lovely family at their garden party. It was really delightful. That was nearly three years ago and since then, I have had the chance to photograph a formal graduating class – including the studio cap and gown images and dressy formals, along with a few graduation lifestyle photo sessions. Confession: When I saw the raw and genuine reaction of a proud dad the first time he saw his little girl all dressed up for her grad day, I cried.
“I don’t remember the last time we actually sat and looked into each other’s eyes – we’ve been so busy – with work, family and planning the wedding. Today was magical – you helped us re-connect – thank you so much.” These were actual words I heard from a couple when I captured their engagement images. I hope that’s the kind of magic I can help make with each and every engagement session – especially if you’re a groom who doesn’t like photos and really isn’t into the shoot. I promise, I can make you feel comfortable and it will be FUN!
Family, Babies and Baby Bumps
“Nancy – thank you so much for everything! Thank you for making this process so simple and fun! I knew when I saw your work and finally met you, that we were meant to come together. My family dynamics are changing – too quickly for my liking and I’m so glad we were able to capture this time in our lives. Thank you soooo much once again!” Heide Gleave and family
“I can’t get enough!!! I laughed, I cried! Thank you soooo much, Nancy! I feel like you really captured ‘us'” Rochelle and Cam Birkhiem
My own family means the world to me – so it only made sense that my first foray into photography was capturing family images – my own children and grandchildren and for my clients. I love being able to capture the essence of the relationships they have with one another, the simpleness of just being together, just being a family. During every session, I work quietly (and if there are little kids, QUICKLY!) to make images that convey the sweet emotion. My style is lifestyle documentary – that’s the way I prefer to shoot – your life, in pictures. However, I do understand that some posed formal is necessary for a family to feel their session is complete- in this gallery, you will see a balanced blend of both.
What’s important to you? The first thing I state to my wedding clients when I meet them is this, “At the end of the day, when your wedding is over, you are left with two things: a spouse and your wedding photos – and you better be happy with both!” From the time you start getting ready on that special day, to the first dance, I will capture the moments that you didn’t even know were important to you.
“Words can’t explain your work. Your work explains itself.” Trent Pawlik, groom- wedding September 2015
“Nancy shot both our engagement and wedding sessions. Being shy, I had never stepped foot in front of the lens before. Looking at our photos, you would never know it. She has the ability to make you feel comfortable which enables her to capture genuine expression and interaction. She excels in finding naturally candid moments. When looking through our photographs, there were so many memories captured that would be forgotten if not for her. Given a challenge, whether it is eight children under the age of seven, or a socially awkward bride, she steps up to the plate with patience, creativity and grace. If you are looking for someone responsive and truly passionate for their craft, she’s the photographer you want.”
