From top to bottom, Katie and Ryan’s wedding was gorgeous. Every little detail was in place and every person felt like they were part of something special and extraordinary – because we were. It’s hard to describe, but when I shoot a wedding, it’s a job – it really is. But every so often, I feel like I am a family member – invited to be the one who captures all the memories (no pressure) and this was the case for Katie and Ryan’s wedding.
I first met Katie Thomson and Ryan Goddard in January of 2014 when they came to our place in Sun Peaks Resort for their engagement photos. Katie took one look at my leg in a cast and promptly offered to leave, and come back another time, but I wouldn’t let them. I know if I had mentioned my broken ankle (yes, a ski injury) over the phone when arranging their engagement shoot, they would have cancelled. I didn’t want that – I was craving the creative work and contact with people – after all, my husband was out skiing!
The day was wonderful and about two days later, I received a message from the two of them asking me to shoot their 2014 Thanksgiving wedding at Rainbow’s Roost in Kamloops. This is their story – their beautiful day. Thank you Katie and Ry – especially to Ry, who, after a few hot apple ciders, announced to me that, “You know what? You’re a REAL photographer! So many people pass themselves off as photographers, but you’re the REAL DEAL – you know what you’re doing, and I am so glad we hired you!” Thanks Ryan – you made my year.
